Design & Sustainability
Design & Sustainability is a course in year 2 quartile 2 that introduced me to three different perspectives on sustainability and sustainable design within the department:
- Circularity
- Regenerability
- Rights of Nature
Every module had a final deliverable which we handed in as a group. For circularity we handed in a report suggesting changes to a commercial product after using the R-ladder strategies, value hill and material diagram. For regenerability we handed in a report dissecting and speculating on a design and design improvement of a Project-2 project based on the 12 strategies of permaculture. For Rights of Nature we made a manifesto and video based on a marginalized being or object.
Overall I learned quite a few strategies but aligned myself the most with the speculative and disruptive design methodology presented in the regenerability module alongside the theory and empathy that the rights of nature module built. I would end up taking this with me into the Design for Post-Growth Living course the next quartile.
