LOTUS

Hi, I'm LOTUS.

Everyone has been there, forgetting your keys. You thought you knew where you left them but they magically end up somewhere else. By no means is it the end of the world, yet still it is an uncomfortable experience we all find ourselves in. This is where LOTUS comes in to help. She is our unusual yet comforting solution to this tiny moment of forgetfulness.

LOTUS is a flower that gradually lowers herself to remind you of your keys once you pass by her basin. By showing her your keys she opens up her petals, spreading her floral scent for you, and goes back into hibernation waiting for you. A small yet fun interaction to blend into the context of your hallway, the entrance of your comforting abode.

What makes LOTUS special is her ability to remember your interaction with her. By showing your keys to her, she gets happy. If you leave her basin empty multiple times, she will slowly turn sorrow, slowly dwindling her petals like a flower without water.

LOTUS is for people that feel lonely at home, by tackling the first and last experience of being home. Through movement, it makes the place come alive, and gives you something to look forward to coming back to.

Exploring materiality and unique sensory experiences has been the key to LOTUS' bloom. Through unconventional movements, light materials, and a 3d printed skeleton, LOTUS shows what is possible within the realm of comfort and a materials-first approach to design.
